New Virtual Art Galleries

We are taking advantage of the celebration of the International Day for Persons with Disabilities to announce the launch of two new virtual art galleries:

The first gallery, extrARTordinary, is a gallery dedicated entirely to art created by extra-ordinary people – people living with an intellectual disability.

In this gallery, you will find the creations of people living in L’Arche Winnipeg; those of a group of eight adults in Australia who have created a banner with the theme “We Are All God’s People,” and the works of Mickael from L'Arche Ruisselee in France. Don’t hesitate to send us your extra-ordinary works of art!

Another gallery features the projects created in schools or art centres on the theme of intellectual disabilities. (in construction).

Take a look at the creations of students from the small primary school, St-Lucy, whose students have special needs, as well as the drawings from other Australian schools in the area! Also from Australia, we have received several works created at the Footscray Community Art Centre. Coming soon – one hundred drawings from a primary school in Quebec.

Among the special contributions, don’t miss the 1,014 sketches created by our friend, Guillaume, especially for the International Day for Persons with Disabilities.

The challenge was to create 1,014 sketches of life, taking his inspiration from all people, and not drawing distinctions between so-called “normal” people and those who live with an intellectual disability.
A goal achieved – this is definitely something to see!

We are in the process of uploading all of these sketches at this address.

Finally, see below the new drawings from L’Arche Beloeil, L’Arche Homefires, la maison Katimavik de St-Hyacinthe, and the J'ouvre mes ailes workshop at the depanneur Sylvestre , as well as all the contributions from individuals who pledged to create drawings celebrating solidarity with people living with an intellectual disability.

Our thanks to everyone, but this is only the beginning! We will continue …

You are special and important in my eyes, just as you are!

Letter of
Jean Vanier :

I am drawn by the “1001 Drawings” initiative. The activity proposed is disarmingly simple, and it reminds me of the lack of pretension I see daily among the people of L’Arche. But at the same time, this activity is a kind of “foot-washing.” Some might be shocked by it; others embarrassed. Nevertheless, it is an act that moves one along the difficult path from the head to the heart. In tracing, from an ordinary photograph, the facial features of someone affected by an intellectual disability, we must take time to really look at the person. In posting the drawings on the Internet, we are using its virtual space in a unique and original way, virtually “posting” acts of tenderness.
